Diktat und Transkription
The transcription service of the Google platform turns speech into text without your own hardware having to be in place - what is affected here is dictation, client conversations and meeting recordings, that is, the most sensitive data category of all; quality depends substantially on the recording. Via Google Vertex AI the chain is closed: the same service-bound confidentiality agreement under section 203 of the German Criminal Code that applies to the platform's language models covers this service too, with the chain obligation under section 203(4) ahead of it. What the contract does not answer is the second question of every recording: it captures everyone present - consent and instruction have to be settled before first use.
Everything section 203 requires is settled, including the provider's confidentiality undertaking. You do not have to clarify anything further.
What it is good for
- Managed transcription through the platform's EU endpoint, without your own hardware
- Processing committed to the EU; the current tier callable through the EU multi-region
- Covered by the same service-bound section 203 agreement as the platform's language models
Where it stops
- The previous tier is listed only through a single EU region and without an EU multi-region marker - there the choice of region alone decides the processing jurisdiction
- The reach of the project-specific logging exception beyond the Gemini services has to be settled in writing; while it is open, the standard regime with up to 90 days applies
- Per the vendor documentation, abuse monitoring logs are not encrypted with customer-managed keys
- A recording captures everyone present - the consent and instruction question has to be settled before first use, not after
Routes examined
The same model, procured differently, is a different legal position. What is examined per route is the contract chain, not the model.
| Route | Section 203 status | Version on this route |

The conditions behind a conditional status - which piece is open on which route and who closes it - are set out in the full matrix in the German catalogue, and we go through them in the conversation. The German page for Diktat und Transkription carries the sources with their retrieval dates.
