The fast general-purpose model from Google's Gemini family: it reads long documents in one pass, summarises them and answers follow-up questions on the same text without it having to be uploaded again. Besides text it processes scans and images, which makes it useful for file and receipt work. The examined route is Google Vertex AI, and on it the contractual chain is closed: the platform operator's confidentiality agreement under section 203 of the German Criminal Code is signed, service-bound for all models on the platform, with the undertaking under section 203(4) ahead of it. Because a US group remains in the chain, the third-country module is mandatory.
Everything section 203 requires is settled, including the provider's confidentiality undertaking. You do not have to clarify anything further.
What it is good for
- Large context window and multimodality for files, tables and receipts
- Maximum no-persistence configuration available at the EU endpoint (no caching, no abuse monitoring)
- The abuse monitoring exception is already in place for the Gosign project
Where it stops
- The abuse monitoring exception is project-bound - it has to be applied for again per customer project, and the section 203 agreement does not replace it
- CLOUD Act exposure remains - the third-country module is mandatory
- The professional-law bar on foreign processing remains a separate assessment by the firm
