Mistral Medium

The middle tier from the French vendor Mistral AI, positioned between the large tier and the compact models. It fits tasks that arrive in volume but demand more care than pure extraction: summaries, correspondence drafts, preliminary checks. For professional secrets two routes carry, and on both the chain is closed: via Azure and via Google Vertex AI - on both the confidentiality undertaking under section 203 of the German Criminal Code is signed. In both cases a US group sits in the chain as the platform operator, and binding to the EU has to be enforced by organisational policy.

What it is good for

Where it stops
- For complex analysis and subsumption the large tier or a reasoning model is the better choice
- Despite the European vendor, a US group sits in the chain on this route as the platform operator
- Abuse monitoring is active by default; switching it off depends on a vendor approval that cannot be booked directly
- The platform's global endpoint gives no residency guarantee - the same models can be called there as well. Binding to the EU is therefore a configuration requirement: the global endpoint is blocked by organisational policy, otherwise the EU commitment is a settings question rather than a property.
