Microsoft Copilot
Microsoft Copilot is the AI layer inside Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams and SharePoint - the analysis sits where the file already lives; underneath, models from OpenAI and, depending on the setting, from Anthropic do the work. For professional secrets the chain is nevertheless not closed: the confidentiality undertaking under section 203 of the German Criminal Code sits in a separate contract document that the firm must sign in addition to the standard agreement - whether it covers the AI services in the firm's own tenant and their subcontractors is not documented publicly by Microsoft. The free consumer access without enterprise data protection has neither a data processing agreement nor a confidentiality undertaking.

What it is good for

Where it stops
- For the Azure models the confidentiality amendment is signed through our contractual line; its effect for the Copilot services in the firm's tenant is not covered by it and has to be settled per setup
- Anthropic models, once enabled, leave the EU data boundary - the administrator has to control this actively
- The confidentiality addendum is a separate contractual step per firm, not part of the standard agreement
