Google's open model line in compact sizes: fast, economical and with solid German language quality - in the MOEVE benchmark of the German Federal Printing Office, run on German-language public-sector and legal material, it is among the leaders, although measured on administrative rather than client work. Because the weights are open, the chain is closed on four routes at once: via a German EU operator, via the Open Telekom Cloud, where T-Systems operates this model itself in Germany, and in dedicated operation on reserved hardware, where only the data centre operator has to be put under obligation via section 203(4) of the German Criminal Code. Running it on your own hardware on your own premises means no third party participates at all.
Everything section 203 requires is settled, including the provider's confidentiality undertaking. You do not have to clarify anything further.
The operator bills separately - input EUR 0.10 · output EUR 0.50. The figure above is the blend of the two, weighted three quarters input to one quarter output, as it arises in a firm. Passed through at purchase price, without a mark-up.
What it is good for
- Best documented performance record on German-language administrative and legal texts
- Open weights - operation in Europe or on your own premises is possible
- Compact sizes with modest hardware requirements
Where it stops
- The benchmark measures administrative work; transferability to client work is limited
- The variant available through EU inference is not the strongest of the family
- References have to be verified; no legal fine-tuning
