The middle tier of Anthropic's standard Claude family and, for many, the practical default: close to the text quality of the large tier, but noticeably faster and cheaper per operation - it carries the daily drafting and summarising work. Here too the route decides: via Google Vertex AI the chain is closed, because the platform operator has signed a service-bound confidentiality agreement under section 203 of the German Criminal Code and operation runs through EU endpoints with no storage beyond the processing itself. Via Amazon Bedrock the technical commitment is strong, but a signable document for the confidentiality undertaking is missing; via Azure, directly from the vendor and through free consumer access there is no coverage.
Everything section 203 requires is settled, including the provider's confidentiality undertaking. You do not have to clarify anything further.

- EU endpoints carry a 10 percent surcharge

- On the AWS route, binding to the EU is a per-call decision: the European inference profile routes within Europe and, depending on the profile, includes regions outside the EU member states (London, Zurich); a worldwide profile exists for the same model. Without enforcement through an organisational policy the EU location is available but not enforced (research date 2026-08-17)
