The compact, very fast tier of Anthropic's Claude family for work in series: reading receipts, normalising subject lines, pulling keywords, preparing short replies - wherever every second of waiting is multiplied by volume. The contractual chain is closed via Google Vertex AI alone: there the platform operator has signed a confidentiality agreement under section 203 of the German Criminal Code, service-bound and platform-wide, with the chain obligation under section 203(4) ahead of it. So it hangs on the route - via Amazon Bedrock there is no signable standard document on confidentiality, and the Azure route, buying directly from the vendor and the free consumer access do not carry client data.
Everything section 203 requires is settled, including the provider's confidentiality undertaking. You do not have to clarify anything further.
What it is good for
- Compact, fast tier for extraction, correspondence and high volumes
- No content access by Google or Anthropic on the Google platform (Anthropic documentation), zero data retention selectable
- Processing inside the EU
Where it stops
- Compact model class - for complex analysis and pleading work the larger tiers of the family are the better choice
- EU endpoints carry a 10 percent surcharge; CLOUD Act exposure remains
- CLOUD Act exposure remains as long as a US provider sits in the chain
- On the AWS route, binding to the EU is a per-call decision: the European inference profile routes within Europe and, depending on the profile, includes regions outside the EU member states (London, Zurich); a worldwide profile also exists. Without enforcement through an organisational policy the EU location is available but not enforced (research date 2026-08-17)
