The smallest size class of OpenAI's GPT line, not meant for assessment and drafting but for the mechanical intermediate steps in a file: pulling fields from receipts, classifying documents, normalising lists. Where the result is checked anyway, it is the most economical tier of the family. The load-bearing route is Azure: there the model is sold and operated by the platform itself, processing stays inside the EU, and the confidentiality undertaking under section 203 of the German Criminal Code is signed in text form - the chain is closed on this route. The abuse monitoring active by default has to be settled separately.

What it is good for
- Lowest cost and latency tier of the family - suitable for bulk steps in a processing chain
- EU processing in seven EU regions; same contractual line as the large classes
- Sufficient for structured extraction where the result is checked anyway
Where it stops
- Not suitable for substantive assessment, subsumption and drafting - the large or the reasoning class is intended for that
- Abuse monitoring is active by default; switching it off depends on a vendor approval that cannot be booked directly
- On the retention period in the abuse data store we found no publicly available product document with a stated term (as of 2026-08-17)
